Four Ways to Enjoy Your Deck this Summer

With summer upon us and Christmas coming, ‘tis the season for relaxing, entertaining and connecting with loved ones.

But how can you ensure you get to do this and more during your downtime?

It starts by consciously planning what you want to do, so you make time for it. To get you started, here are four ways to enjoy your deck this summer.

1. Extend your living area

There is just something about the warmer months that draws us outside and into nature.

A great way to capitalise on this time is to make your deck an extension of your living area. To do this, bring elements of your indoor colour scheme out and consider the outdoor furniture you choose.

Depending on the size of your deck, you may want to create different ‘rooms’.

These rooms could include a kitchen and dining area around the BBQ and a separate lounge area for a more relaxed conversation spot or a comfortable place to curl up with a coffee and a good book.

2. Chill out while the kids swim or have outdoor play

It can be tempting to busy ourselves with general tidying and gardening while the kids are in the backyard or pool, but this is the season for you to rest and relax too!

With two very full-on years for all of us, now is the perfect time to be getting your outdoor retreat prepped and ready so you can be at play while your kids are. Think about what activities you want to do outside in your downtime and create an area to enable you to do it.

If it’s catching up on your podcasts or reading, you’ll want a comfy and cosy nook. If it’s sunbaking while the kids swim, you’ll want a sunny spot to supervise them, which is also away from the prying eyes of neighbours.

3. Host Christmas lunch or dinner

Avoid the mess that entertaining inside often brings by hosting Christmas lunch or dinner on your deck.

To add to the ambience, ‘deck the halls’ by adding lights and other Christmas decorations around.

With Ekodeck Designer Series boards being so easy to clean, you don’t have to worry about the food or wine spills if anyone gets a little too merry and excited to see everyone! Simply wash it off with warm soapy water.

4. Throw another shrimp (or snag) on the barbie

BBQs are a great Aussie tradition and create a casual dining experience, perfect for conversation and relaxation.

With connection being a big focus this season with more catch ups with loved ones, the good old BBQ on the deck is a great way to take the pressure off and keep it fun for all.
