Nestled amongst the trees on a large bush block in the quaint township of Heathcote Junction, this architecturally inspired residence has been thoughtfully handcrafted by owner-builder Ryan Elliot.

A building surveyor with over 20-years’ experience in the building industry, Ryan set out to create a family home which would enable his young family to grow for years to come. Taking advantage of the northerly aspect of the block, the house is surrounded by immersive vegetation which allows for plentiful natural light and passive heating and cooling throughout the building.

Split into two wings, the residence features a main living wing with kitchen, dining and living rooms and the other comprising of the bedrooms, study and utility areas.

With a focus on sustainability, Ryan chose certain building materials in the construction of the property to reduce waste and minimise the carbon footprint and impact on the environment during construction. Smart alternatives to traditional materials was also a key focus – raw materials such as concrete and plywood sheeting has been innovatively used to keep costs down and give a refined yet raw feel to the new build.

Keen to keep maintenance to a minimum, Ryan opted for Ekodeck composite decking to go around their Plungie pool. Being in a bushfire-prone area, and needing to adhere to strict Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) requirements, Ekodeck Flame Fighter was selected due to its certified BAL29 bushfire rating.
